“Everything works out in the end, you see, everything connects. The nine circles. The nine planets. The nine innings. Our nine lives. Just think of it.”
Paul Auster Moon Palace
SCHOOL is pleased to present Moon Palace, a group exhibition Inspired by Paul Auster’s 1989 book Moon Palace that contemplates the cyclical nature of existence and destiny, showing how events in life, no matter how random, eventually connect to form a coherent whole. Included in Moon Palace are Colin Booth, Matthew Collings, Catherine Haines, Bob Matthews, Simon Patterson, Terry Perk, Terry Smith, Mick Williamson and Fleur Yearsley.
Curator Michael Hall states “I’m always curious at the connection between the many artists whose work I’m drawn to and ones I’ve worked with for many years. Literature plays an important role in my life as does John Lennon, which is why I’m drawn to the number 9. I’ve always been hugely inspired by Conceptual Art, but I have quite an impulsive nature which often draws me to very different styles, saying seemingly different things. Romance and landscape are recurring themes but it’s not enough to really understand what connects them all. This exhibition offers me a chance to put 9 different artists together, selected in as impulsive a manner as possible, to look for connections and see if there is a coherent whole”.
There will be several talks and events Throughout February to uncover the connections between each artist and look at the way random things can connect.
